(Non-invasive studies)

Blood pressures are measured at multiple levels along the lower limb to locate the level of arterial obstruction.

How is segmental pressure measured

Similar to the ABPI test, with the addition of two or three blood pressure cuffs. The blood pressure at each cuff location on the leg is noted.

A drop in pressure of more than 20mmHg between two adjacent cuffs indicates a significant narrowing of the artery in this portion of the leg and allows precise localization of the arterial disease.
