The volume changes with arterial pulsation in the lower limb is recorded and analysed
How is PVR performed
Instead of temporarily stopping the blood flow to determine blood pressure, PVR cuffs are inflated to a lower pressure and allows blood to continue flowing through.
As blood pulses through, the blood vessels expand causing a decrease in the volume of air within the cuff. A recording device displays these pulse volume changes as a waveform. The shape of the waveform gives useful information about the blood flow in the legs. PVR is more informative for patients with diabetes or those with stiff and hard arteries.
