Apart from the management of the diseases of the arteries and veins, vascular surgery also provides access for haemodialysis and central venous line for the administration of chemotherapy.

Disease of the vascular system overview
The vascular system is a network of blood vessels, the arteries and the veins. The heart pumps oxygen-rich blood through the arteries to all body tissues to provide the needed food and oxygen. Veins return blood from the body tissue to be enriched with oxygen again and repumped by the heart

Arterial disease
Atherosclerosis is a systemic disease and is the underlying cause of most arterial diseases. Devastating outcomes of arterial diseases including
strokes, rupture aortic aneurysms and limb amputations could be minimized by vascular interventions.

Venous Disease
On the venous side, obstructed flow cause problem when it affect the deep venous system. Backward flow (Reflux) cause congestion and can affect the superficial, perforating and deep venous system either in isolation or combination. Chronic venous diseases include a spectrum of presentations ranging from swollen leg, telangiectasia, varicose veins, to venous ulceration. Mild disease is treated conservatively.  In advanced disease sclerotherapy, endovenous laser ablation and the minimally invasive PIN stripping operation are the office-based treatment options performed under local anaesthesia.

Access for Haemodialysis
The provision of a functional and long lasting access for haemodialysis can be better achieved by using an arteriovenous fistula. Compared to AV grafts and central venous catheters, AV fistula lasts longer requires fewer interventions to maintain patency and has a lower rate of infection.

Central Venous Access
Implanted injection port with central venous catheter is placed to provide venous access for frequent or continuous administration of intravenous substances without the repeated painful needle sticks. It makes the months of chemotherapy much less traumatic.
